Houston Deco: Houston's Modernistic Architecture
2800 Post Oak Blvd.
Historic name: Transco Tower
Current name: Williams Tower
Architects: Johnson/Burgee Architects and Morris*Aubry Architects
Completed: 1983

The sharp angles and setbacks of 1920s Art Deco skyscrapers inspired the design of this 64-story suburban tower. The building is topped by a rotating beacon, another classic Art Deco detail. Air mail pilots were guided by similar beacon atop Houston's Gulf Building and the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont when those structures were completed.
