Houston Deco: Houston's Modernistic Architecture
1001 Shaw Ave., Pasadena
endangered
Completed: 1949
Architect: Raymond F. Smith

The 1,500-seat Capitan was owned by the city of Pasadena for many years. Although the city restored the theater's exterior and its neon signage, the interior remained deteriorated and closed to the public as Pasadena officials considered options for a total restoration.

In 2014, the city sold the building to a private company and the exterior signage was removed. The building's future is uncertain.
