Houston Deco: Houston's Modernistic Architecture
901 Bagby St.
restored
Completed: 1939
Architect: Joseph Finger
City of Houston Protected Landmark; National Register of Historic Places
GHPA Good Brick Award winner, 1997

Finger's finely detailed Houston City Hall is an excellent example of what is sometimes called WPA Deco, the style of many Depression-era projects financed by the federal Works Progress Administration. Other significant examples in the city included Jefferson Davis Hospital and the Sam Houston Coliseum and Music Hall.
